A $15K Ring Vanishes and That’s Just the Start

The Glen Rock Police Department releases weekly blotters to media outlets, selecting specific incidents to highlight from the total volume of calls they handle. During the period between August 11, 2025, through August 17, 2025, members of the GRPD handled 287 calls for service. Here is what they released:

FRAUD

August 11, 2025

The New York City Police Department apprehended Abba Cohen, age 40, of Flushing, NY, a fugitive wanted by the Glen Rock Police Department on charges of Conspiracy to Commit Theft by Deception and Receiving Stolen Property. The charges were the result of an investigation into a January 2024 home improvement scam where an elderly resident was defrauded of $25,800.
The actor remains in custody of New York City authorities pending extradition.

August 11, 2025
A Glen Rock resident reported that they were involved in an eBay transaction where they sold $820 worth of plants to an individual who resides in Minnesota. The buyer claimed that they were dissatisfied with the plants and wished to return them for a refund. To receive a refund, eBay required that the plants be returned. When the return package was received, it contained what appeared to be roots of some type which were not consistent with the plants which they had provided.
The matter has been referred to the Detective Bureau for review.

August 12, 2025
A Glen Rock resident reported that a fraudulent Verizon account had been opened in their name. The complainant learned about this account when contacted by a collection agency concerning an unpaid balance of $512.36. A subpoena has been sent to Verizon for additional information concerning the account and the matter has been referred to the Detective Bureau for investigation.

August 13, 2025
A Glen Rock resident reported the theft of a check they had mailed from the U.S. Postal Service mailbox in front of the Glen Rock Post Office on Sunday August 10th. The check was fraudulently rewritten in the amount of $12,576.52 payable to an individual unknown to the complainant. A stop payment was issued, and no funds were transferred.

The matter has been referred to the US Postal Inspection Service, the federal law enforcement agency responsible for investigating the theft of US Mail.

August 16, 2025
A Glen Rock resident reported that multiple fraudulent purchase attempts have been made on their Discover Credit account. The complainant has contacted the bank to ensure that authorization was denied. Documentation of the attempts has been forwarded to the Detective Bureau for review.


THEFT

August 13, 2025

The Passaic County Sheriff's Department took into custody Brian Mc Neill, age 43, of Passaic, NJ, on an active warrant issued by the Glen Rock Police Department for Shoplifting which occurred at Bottle King Liquors on May 25th, 2024. The subject has been detained at the Bergen County Jail pending a court appearance.

August 15, 2025
An employee at Beekman Wines & Liquors in the Rock Road Central Business District reported that two male subjects shoplifted high-end liquor and fled the store. The actors were described as two white males in their 40’s. A possible vehicle involved was described as a white Ford Escape. Store personnel are providing video surveillance images to the Detective Bureau for investigation.

August 16, 2025
A Hawthorne resident reported they had ordered an Apple laptop, valued at $3,000, which UPS delivered to the CVS Store at 175 Rock Road in Glen Rock. The confirmation receipt provided by UPS showed that the package was delivered on August 14th at 5:23 PM and signed for by an individual by the name of Frederick Merri. Neither the complainant nor the staff at the CVS claim to know that individual. The matter has been referred to the Detective Bureau for review.

August 16, 2025
A Glen Rock resident reported that during the last two weeks, an engagement ring with a reported value of $15,000, as well as $600 in cash, is missing from their home. The complainant states that the only non-family member in the home during this period was a contractor. The matter has been referred to the Detective Bureau for review.


TRESPASSING

August 11, 2025

Pariya Jaiwal, age 47, of Cupertino, CA, was arrested for Defiant Trespass – N.J.S.A. 2C:18-3B by P.O. Andrew Magro at the Sikh Temple on Prospect Street. The subject, who had been disruptive and caused disturbances at the Temple for a protracted period, had been removed from the Temple by Police on August 10th, with a formal notice against trespass issued by the Temple leadership. At the time of this incident she returned, refused to leave, and was placed under arrest.
The subject was transported to Police HQ and released on her own recognizance after her identity was confirmed.

These charges are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

August 17, 2025
The owner of an apartment building/commercial complex on Main Street requested police assistance with a homeless male who has been sleeping in the basement of their building. Responding officers field contacted a 43-year-old man who had been previously notified by the property owner that he was not welcome on the premises.

The man declined any outreach from the officers or a social worker in seeking shelter or medical assistance. He was provided with contact information for social services to assist him at a later date should he desire help. He was escorted from the building and advised not to return.


ASSAULT

August 11, 2025

A 21 year old resident of Glen Rock was arrested for Simple Assault – N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1 A(1) by P.O. James Mc Gill. The arrest resulted from a police response to a reported dispute which took place on Midwood Road.

These charges are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
