For more than a century, NJ public libraries have been home to books, magazines, and newspapers, offering a quiet place to read and learn. The Glen Rock Public Library still provides all of those traditional resources, but today a library card unlocks so much more. It is a gateway to experiences, technology, entertainment, and community connections that reach far beyond the printed page.

With a Glen Rock library card, residents can access popular digital platforms such as Libby and Hoopla, bringing thousands of e-books, audiobooks, movies, TV shows, and music to your device. Libby offers up to five borrows at a time. Hoopla adds even more variety, along with BingePasses that give children unlimited streaming of curated content for a week using just one borrow.

The library also serves as a research and learning hub. Patrons can tap into scholarly journals, full-text articles, and magazine abstracts through the BCCLS network. Consumer Reports is available at no cost, providing expert reviews for everything from appliances to cars. Librarian-approved web guides make it easy to find trusted websites for both kids and adults, while HeritageQuest opens doors to genealogical research and family history. Students and job seekers can take advantage of Gale Presents: Peterson’s Test and Career Prep, which includes practice tests for major exams, online courses, and career resources.

One of the most popular benefits comes from the Friends of the Glen Rock Public Library, who sponsor the Museum Pass Program. This initiative allows adult residents to borrow free or discounted admission passes to cultural destinations. Families can visit the 9/11 Memorial & Museum, the Guggenheim, the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum and more, without paying full admission, often enjoying bonus perks like store discounts or express entry.

The Library of Things adds another creative dimension. Cardholders can borrow items such as outdoor games, bird-watching kits, tools, home care items, cake pans, and telescopes for up to 14 days. It is an opportunity to try new hobbies, complete projects, or enjoy a family activity without having to purchase specialized equipment.

Community programs keep the library calendar lively throughout the year. In August, events included Tiny Tots Storytime in the Children’s Room, a Midweek Make workshop for creating bee and butterfly watering stations, an NJ Property Tax Relief information seminar, a cupcake decorating competition for teens, and trivia game days. Their next After Hours Concert will be September 16th at 7:00 p.m. by the band 6 Degrees. There is truly something for every age and interest.

The library is also a space for meetings and collaboration. Two quiet rooms are available during most operating hours for shared public use, and the Community Room may be reserved by non-profits or other groups.

Kristen Comeaux, MLIS, Director of the Glen Rock Public Library, sums it up best. “Your library card isn’t just about reading. It is about connecting you with resources, experiences, and opportunities you might not even know you have access to. The library is truly a place for everyone.”

In Glen Rock, the library has become much more than a place to check out books. It is a community resource center, an entertainment provider, a classroom, and even a cultural passport. With so many options, there has never been a better time to see what your library card can do for you.
