Multiple Glen Rock Residents Report Mail Theft

A growing number of Glen Rock residents are reporting incidents of stolen mail, prompting renewed concerns about mail security and calls for increased reporting to federal and local authorities.
On July 14, 2025, a resident shared that a greeting card containing cash, mailed to their home, arrived with the envelope sliced open and the contents missing. This marks the fourth such incident for the household. The resident has since filed reports with both the Glen Rock Police Department and the United States Postal Inspection Service (USPIS).
“It’s ridiculous our kids’ grandparents can’t send something in the mail without it getting opened,” the resident said in a community post. “I’ve asked people not to send to us via USPS anymore.”
Other Glen Rock residents have echoed similar experiences. One reported a birthday card that arrived opened with a missing gift card. Another noted a get-well card that had been tampered with before delivery. In one case, a resident said a cash-filled envelope from a family member never arrived at all.
“My mom now sends cards in a padded envelope via UPS or FedEx,” one commenter shared. “It’s slightly more expensive but we’ve never had a problem since.”
How Residents Can Protect Their Mail
Officials and neighbors are encouraging proactive steps to prevent future theft:
- Avoid sending cash through the mail. Use alternatives such as checks, money orders, or secure digital transfers.
- Use padded or tamper-evident packaging. Bulkier envelopes are less likely to be discreetly opened.
- Opt for signature-required delivery. This ensures the item is handed directly to the recipient.
- Track packages closely. Monitoring delivery status can help detect missing items promptly.
- Inspect all mail immediately. Check for signs of tampering and retain packaging if theft is suspected.
How to Report Mail Theft
Anyone who believes their mail has been stolen or tampered with should take the following steps:
- File a complaint with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service at www.uspis.gov or by calling 1-877-876-2455.
- Report the incident to the Glen Rock Police Department, including the date of delivery, the suspected contents, and the condition of the envelope or package.
- Notify your local post office and mail carrier, who may be able to flag the issue along your delivery route.
- Preserve evidence such as the opened envelope, photographs of damage, and any relevant tracking information.
Law enforcement and postal officials rely on these reports to investigate patterns and prevent further incidents. Even if the value of missing items is small, authorities stress that all cases should be reported.
Residents are urged to remain alert and share any suspicious activity with neighbors and postal authorities.
