Sidewalk Ordinance Revision Introduced

At the June 25 Borough Council meeting, Glen Rock introduced a proposed amendment to the existing sidewalk ordinance (Chapter 188-28 and 188-29) for first reading.
The amendment includes three key updates:
- Clarifies that notice of a sidewalk issue will come from the Director of Public Works or their designee.
- Extends the response window for property owners from 30 days to 105 days.
- Replaces the word “shall” with “may” regarding the Borough’s ability to intervene when a notice goes unaddressed.
This ordinance has been in place and followed by Glen Rock residents for nearly 50 years. The proposed changes are designed to provide added flexibility, with the most significant being the extended timeline for compliance.
A second reading and public hearing are scheduled for the next Council meeting on July 23, 2025. Residents will have the opportunity to offer comments before the Council votes on final adoption.
