Steven Neale Appointed New Borough Administrator for Glen Rock

Glen Rock has officially appointed Steven Neale, CPM, QPA, as its next Borough Administrator, following the retirement of longtime administrator Lenora Benjamin. Neale will begin his role on September 29, 2025, with an annual salary of $170,000, pro-rated through the end of the year.
Neale joins Glen Rock with nearly two decades of public service experience across municipal government and local economic development. Most recently, he served as Borough Administrator in Waldwick, where he was responsible for managing daily operations, overseeing municipal staff, working on the borough budget, serving as purchasing agent, and coordinating directly with the Mayor and Council.
Prior to that role, Neale spent 16 years in Verona, holding multiple leadership positions including Director of Administration and Economic Development. There, he directed several departments and spearheaded efforts to attract and retain local businesses, implement digital and print marketing campaigns, and improve energy efficiency across municipal buildings. He was also instrumental in securing hundreds of thousands of dollars in federal funding for public infrastructure, including emergency services equipment and electric vehicle charging stations.
His other roles in Verona included Director of Communications, Adventure Program Manager, and Chair of the Sustainable Verona Program. Neale led strategic communications initiatives such as website redesigns and app development, and he played a key role in elevating the town’s community branding and outreach. He also served as a Class II Planning Board Member and Clean Communities Coordinator, contributing to long-term planning and environmental sustainability efforts.
Neale is an active member of the Verona Fire Department and brings with him a background in emergency services, union and labor relations, and municipal grant management. He is also a former non-credit instructor with Rutgers University’s Continuing Education program, where he taught digital communications and social media strategy.
When asked how he feels about the new position, Neale stated,
“I am extremely thankful to the Mayor and Council for the opportunity to join the amazing team in Glen Rock and look forward to getting to know everyone in the community better. I'm ready to dive in and get to work. I'd also like to thank and congratulate Lenora and wish her the best in retirement!”
His appointment marks the beginning of a new era in borough leadership, following the announced retirement of Lenora Benjamin after more than 33 years of service to Glen Rock.
